Running Motivation – with Austin Sheppard

As my Running Motivation series continues, I look for motivation from family man Austin Sheppard. Austin is a great Dad who shows that “thisdadcanrun”. Is on his was to claim his 6 stars, with Tokyo and Chicago 2020 brining him to 5 with just Boston to go. You can follow Austin on Instagram HERE.

What has been your highlight of 2019

2019 has been an amazing year with so many awesome events and experiences but if I had to choose just 1 running highlight it would have to be the London Marathon. To run my home town marathon with the support of so many family and friends was so incredible. Running along Bankside and seeing my kids and having all the epic support was the absolute best of the best.

What are you most looking forward to in 2020

This is also tough to choose. I have been supper lucky to win ballot places at both Tokyo and Chicago and can not wait to run both of these iconic races and picking up star 4 and 5, on the journey to 6.

What are your top 3 tips to stay motivated to run

I’m very goal orientated so always set a goal to try and reach. These have been things like:
Run a sub 50 10k
Run a sub 1:50 half
Complete a marathon
Reach 50 parkruns milestone
I’m also a social type and love to meet up with other runners, having friends around just makes it easier to enjoy.
I try to remember that my kids are watching and they take their cues from me. If I can show them what living a healthy lifestyle looks like they can hopefully follow suit.

Austin is a great guy that I love to run with. He has helped build a great community through his lip sync videos, and the motivation that comes from the social side of running is definitely a key message to take away from these tips.
